The Kansas Health Foundation, through GROW (Giving Resources to our World) Healthy Kansas initiative, seeking to foster the development of local community foundations, sponsored a one day seminar to GROW participants to assist them in evaluating fund accounting systems. Yeager and Associates walked with them through the process of evaluation, helping them to discover that different needs dictate different choices
The Community Foundation of Herkimer and Oneida Counties (CFHOC) serves the greater Utica, New York Region. While not a large foundation relative to others, it represents the civic face of philanthropy in its region. As it has grown, so too have its needs, and it engaged Yeager and Associates for a single day assessment workshop with its staff.
CFHOC also made effective use of Yeager and Associates in evaluating the merits of a network assessment and service proposal from a local technology provider, with whom they eventually engaged to manage their network and servers.
The Community Foundation for Southeastern Michigan (CFSEM) serves the greater Detroit, Michigan region. While it is among the larger community foundations in the country, the needs of its community are overwhelming. Detroit has not enjoyed a reputation as a leader in civic pride, and there is no shortage of bad news to fuel the grumbling of naysayers.
But good things are happening, and CFSEM is playing key roles in many of them. In 2007, CFSEM asked Yeager and Associates to perform a comprehensive assessment of their operations.
The Tides Foundation is a part of the Tides Network, an organization which actively promotes change toward a healthy and just society. It is known as a progressive presence in philanthropy and out to change the world. But what about its own operations?
Growth and a sharp focus on the mission of the organization have strained operational capacity at the Tides Foundation. In 2006, the foundation asked Yeager and Associates to perform a comprehensive assessment of their operations.
The Community Foundation for Shreveport-Bossier (CFSB) serves as the foundation for northwestern Louisiana. While not a large foundation relative to others, it represents the civic face of philanthropy in its region. With just a handful of staff, it provides unprecedented presence and leadership to the community.
How could the foundation to continue to grow in impact without outpacing its revenue stream? In 2007, CFSB asked Yeager and Associates to perform an audit of its operations in light of its strategic goals.
The Community Foundation for the National Capital Region (CFNCR) serves the greater Washington, DC region. At $355 million in assets, it ranks in the top tier of community foundations, and due to its emphasis on donor advised funds, it has annual grants of over $80 million. The emphasis on DAF funds means that it has less traditional program budget, but it actively promotes community engagement through donor education.
In 2006, CFNCR had completed an internal assessment of technology needs, but was struggling with how to pare the long list of requirements down to a reasonable list of projects. CFNCR asked Yeager and Associates to assist them in moving to an Action Plan.
The Kalamazoo Community Foundation KCF) continues its track record of innovation in the adoption of an advanced system for prospect research. As a part of this initiative, it implemented the Kintera P!N wealth appending system. One hurdle to implementation was a lack of in-house expertise in accessing the FIMS fund accounting system and managing the mapping and conversion of this data to the new system.
In 2006, KCF asked Yeager and Associates to provide technical services in assisting them in implementing Kintera P!N.
